I was inspired by his courage and determination in chasing opportunity, even when the road is tough. This painting is done in acrylic on canvas, with a smooth, solid white-pink background symbolizing both struggle and hope. I placed a detailed miniature image of Rukundo and his bicycle at the bottom of the canvas, focusing on light, balance, and movement to capture his resilience and spirit of perseverance.
Story Behind
I met Rukundo on the way to Rwamagana, holding onto a petroleum truck while riding his matarabaro bicycle, trying to catch a ride to the market. He was in a hurry to find porter work carrying goods from sellers to customers, something he does whenever he can to earn a living.
