About This Artwork
Mama Mucyo is a street vendor from Gakinjiro who begins each day by taking her child to school before going out to sell her goods. Though she never had the opportunity to study, she is determined to give her children the education she did not receive.
This painting was inspired by a simple but powerful conversation. I was moved by Mama Mucyo’s belief that education is the foundation of a better future. Her words, “My children are my investment,” stayed with me.
Through this work, I wanted to highlight the strength of mothers who sacrifice daily so their children can have opportunities they never had. Her quiet commitment and faith in tomorrow deeply touched me.

Story Behind
I met Mama Mucyo at Gakinjiro in Gisozi as she walked home holding her child’s hand. She shared how her day starts early taking her child to school before buying goods and moving around to sell them.
She told me she never had the chance to study, but she is doing everything possible to make sure her children go to school. She has raised three children, and the older ones are already studying. Even though life is not easy, she continues working hard each day, believing that education will change her family’s future
