Mama Mucyo
I met Mama Mucyo at Gakinjiro in Gisozi. She was carrying her agataro and holding her child’s hand as they walked home from school.
I stopped to speak with her briefly, and she shared how her day begins very early. Every morning, she wakes up to take her child to school. After that, she goes to buy goods for selling before spending the rest of the day moving around with her products.
She told me that she never had the opportunity to go to school herself. However, she does everything she can to make sure her children attend school because, for her, education represents a better future.
"My children are my investment,” she said. “I will do everything possible to make sure they study. Maybe one day they will grow up and have a better life. Perhaps one of them will help lift our family to a different level.”
She explained that although she did not have the chance to study, giving her children that opportunity is her way of preparing for tomorrow. She has now raised three children, and the older ones are also in school. She thanks God for that, even though life is not easy and each day requires effort and sacrifice.
Through her daily work, Mama Mucyo continues forward with hope and determination, carrying both her agataro and her dreams for her children’s future.
