Rukundo Jean de Amour
Rukundo Jean de Amour (The Unstoppable Spirit)
I met Rukundo Jean de Amour in Kinigi Sector, Musanze District, on a rainy afternoon. He was pushing his bicycle uphill, balancing a heavy sack and two crates of beer, he was transporting goods from a wholesale shop in town to a retailer far away. The road was wet and yet his focus never wavered.
Rukundo told me he has been working as a porter for over ten years, carrying goods for shop owners across long distances. Through this work, he supports his family he has four children. Despite the difficult conditions whether rain or sunshine he keeps moving forward.
What inspired me most was his persistence and quiet strength. His story reminded me that dignity is not defined by comfort, but by the will to keep going no matter the obstacles.
