Rukara

Rukara

I met Rukara in the Rukiri neighborhood, pushing his bicycle loaded with two crates of beer. He was on his way to deliver them to someone preparing for a party one of the many tasks he takes on each day. Whether transporting goods from shops to customers’ homes or moving products from wholesalers to neighborhood retailers, this has been his work for the past ten years.

Rukara told me he has a wife and one child. His wife also works hard, selling goods on the street using an agataro to carry items on her head. Together, they do everything they can to support their family, each route and step driven by responsibility and love.

This painting honors the teamwork, sacrifice, and resilience within many Rwandan families where every small job plays a big role in survival.
